The presidential election in South Korea has ended the chaos of the past four months, since former President Yoon Suk-Yeol declared martial law and sent troops to attempt (unsuccessfully) to shut down the opposition-controlled legislature. Yoon also arrested at that time several Chinese, accusing them of election interference and fraud. The liberal opposition leader Lee Jae-Myung won the just-concluded election against the representative of Yoon’s party. Lee took office immediately, due to the fact that Yoon had earlier been removed from office.
Lee is known as a friend of China and supports improved relations with North Korea. He had declared himself to be the “Bernie Sanders Candidate” at first, but recently switched to the “Donald Trump Candidate.”
