Trump No Longer Interested in New Nuclear Deal with Iran

Before leaving The Hague yesterday, President Donald Trump said he was no longer interested in a nuclear deal with Iran, now that “the problem” has been “solved” by the June 22 U.S. air strikes on the Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan nuclear sites, while claiming that there will be some kind of U.S.-Iran meeting next week, though no confirmation of such a meeting has been heard from Tehran. “We may sign an agreement, I don’t know. To me, I don’t think it’s that necessary,” Trump said, reported the Times of Israel. “The way I look at it, they fought, the war is done.”

Earlier, Trump said the ceasefire was going “very well,” adding that Iran was “not going to have a bomb and they’re not going to enrich.” He said: “They had a war, they fought, and now they’re going back to their world. I don’t care if I have an agreement or not.”

“We destroyed the nuclear,” Trump declared. “It’s blown up, to Kingdom Come, so I don’t feel strongly about it…. We’re gonna meet with them actually. We’re gonna meet with them.”

He claimed repeatedly that Iran is “not going to go nuclear” while also insisting that the U.S. strikes destroyed Iran’s nuclear sites. “I don’t see them getting back involved in the nuclear business anymore,” he said.

Trump also insisted that he had spoken “to people who have seen” the Fordow nuclear site since the U.S. struck it earlier this week, saying that “the site is obliterated.”

“You can’t get into the tunnels [of the underground site],” he said. “There’s no way you can even get down. The whole thing is collapsed and a disaster. And I think all the nuclear stuff is down there, because it’s very hard to remove.”
