White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters at the White House today that President Donald Trump will decide within the next two weeks whether or not the U.S. will join Israel’s bombing campaign against Iran. “I have a message directly from the President, and I quote, ‘based on the fact that there’s a substantial chance of negotiations that may or may not take place with Iran in the near future, I will make my decision whether or not to go within the next two weeks,’” Leavitt said, reported Fox News. “That’s a quote directly from the President for all of you today.”
Leavitt apparently did not explain what the “substantial chance of negotiations” might be. Trump said on June 18 that Iran still wants to negotiate with the U.S. and has even proposed sending a delegation to the White House, a claim that was rejected by Iran’s mission to the UN. “No Iranian official has ever asked to grovel at the gates of the White House. The only thing more despicable than his lies is his cowardly threat to ‘take out’ Iran’s Supreme Leader,” the mission said in a posting on X. “Iran does NOT negotiate under duress, shall NOT accept peace under duress, and certainly NOT with a has-been warmonger clinging to relevance.”
