The Western-backed attempt to force Serbian President Aleksander Vucic to distance himself from Putin’s Russia reached fever pitch in the last few days, with clashes between police and demonstrators in Belgrade and other cities. On June 29, Sunday, 48 police officers were injured, and 22 protesters sought medical assistance; 77 people were arrested and 38 remain incarcerated, many of them facing criminal charges. The demonstrators are demanding new elections. President Vucic responded that there would be no new elections until the next elections scheduled in 2026, and warned demonstrators, “There will be many more arrested for attacking police … this is not the end,” and accused the protesters of causing “terror.”
Italian researcher Chiara Nalli, whom EIR interviewed in early May, predicted that the instigators of the protests, reacting to the loss of momentum, would turn the heat on.
