Putin Addressed 8th Russian Energy Week International Forum

Russian President Vladimir Putin delivered the keynote address on Oct. 16 to the 8th Russian Energy Week International Forum, providing a broad review of Russia’s policies on the energy front under conditions of “dynamic and profound shifts in the global market.” As reported on the Russian President’s website, Putin said the world is “undergoing an objective transformation, with logistics increasingly shifting towards the Global South—dynamic countries in the Asia-Pacific, Africa, and Latin America. This shift involves more reliable routes, the development of new hubs and ports designed to meet both current and future demands of energy consumers.”

After speaking about oil, gas, and coal, Putin turned to the nuclear sector, and emphasized that Rosatom “accounts for about 90%—90%!—of the global market of nuclear power plants, with 110 power units built to the Russian design around the world.” He stressed that Russia, when working abroad, makes every effort to “create the future of the energy industry and related sectors and to form a solid national personnel, research and technological basis for the development of states as a whole.”

Nuclear is the energy of the future, Putin said. “By 2050, the capacity of nuclear power plants across the world will almost double.”
