According to The Hindu, differences between the U.A.E. and Iran and India’s wish to tone down language condemning Israeli genocide in Gaza, made it impossible for the 11 Deputy Foreign Ministers to reach an agreement on a final document from their April 24-26 New Delhi Summit.
The eleven nations in the BRICS are: Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.), and Indonesia. Given that the other nine nations apparently agreed on the proposed language, The Hindu speculates that this may “spell trouble” for India’s current presidency of the BRICS. The next meeting among BRICS leaders will be the Foreign Ministers Summit on May 14-15.
