Pope Leo XIV in Africa Visited the Grand Mosque of Algiers, and the Land of St. Augustine

Pope Leo XIV began his time in Algeria by visiting the Grand Mosque in Algiers, where he was greeted by the rector and spent a short time in prayer there. His message on his trip has been one of peace and harmony, in particular the harmony of faiths, and reflecting on the work and the traditions of the early Church.

He also laid a wreath of flowers at the Monument to the Martyrs, celebrating the lives of those who were killed during the fight against colonialism. He then visited the convent of the Little Sisters of the Poor, who take care of the elderly and others who do not have their families to take care of them. The Sisters do this for people of all religions.
