Can U.S. Legislators Speak Obvious Truths About Israel Before Facing Their Own Demise?

That’s the question posed by the death-bed admission and plea by long time hardcore Zionist, and former U.S. congressman, Barney Frank, who died last night.

Earlier this month, just before checking into a hospice, he told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, that he was using his imminent death to state bluntly what he believed other Democrats have not been able to say: “It’s what the Democrats should be doing, it’s what America should be doing, and it should be what the Democrats are advocating, is giving an ultimatum that [Netanyahu] either changes things substantially in Gaza and the West Bank, or we cut off any aid.”

He acknowledged being heartbroken by Israel under Netanyahu’s rule, contrasted to his and his family’s life-long support for Israel, dating back to its struggle to shuck off the British mandate and create a Jewish state. “We had a ‘boycott Britain’ bumper sticker on our car.” In Congress, he supported all things Israel for decades, including leading the charge for the release of Jonathan Pollard, Israel’s spy against the U.S.
