Is Trump’s change of heart on attacking Iran related to his recent visit with Chinese President Xi Jinping? Credit: Official White House Photo by Daniel Torok

President Donald Trump postedon Truth Social Monday afternoon,."..I have instructed Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, The Chairman of The Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Daniel Caine, and The United States Military, that we will NOT be doing the scheduled attack of Iran tomorrow, but have further instructed them to be prepared to go forward with a full, large scale assault of Iran, on a moment’s notice, in the event that an acceptable Deal is not reached.”

What caused the American president to change his mind? Is it dawning on President Trump that continuing the Iran war is a losing proposition? Not only does the majority of the American public oppose the war, but this war is not winnable, and even anti-Iran, anti-China hawks like retired Lt.General Michael Flynn are advising that Trump should declare victory, bring our troops home, and “leave it up to the Iranian people.”

Is Trump’s change of heart related to his recent visit with Chinese President Xi Jinping? President Putin will be further developing his close working relationship with President Xi when he arrives in China today for talks. Have Presidents Putin and Xi weighed in on this matter with members of the Gulf States, who supposedly asked President Trump not to launch the strikes on Tuesday? Whatever the cause, the lack of bombing today creates a window of opportunity, however narrow, for a full mobilization with the open letter from Helga Zepp-LaRouche in which she outlines a comprehensive peace plan for Southwest Asia, including ending the Iran war and justice for Palestine. The plan combines elements of what former Foreign Minister and Prime Minister of Turkiye, Ahmet Davutoglu, presented at the emergency EIR Roundtable last Friday with Lyndon LaRouche’s Oasis Plan.

One week from today, China, as the rotating chair of the UN Security Council, will be convening a debate entitled, “Upholding the Purposes and Principles of the UN Charter and Strengthening the UN-centered International System.” This peace plan should be put on the agenda.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has also weighed in on the matter of the United Nations upholding its charter in an important press conference, where he pointed out the obvious: that representatives of NATO member countries seem to be in a disproportionate number of budgetary and policy-making positions at the UN.

Meanwhile, European leaders are tone deaf to the warnings coming from Russia. Russian Permanent Representative to the OSCE, Ambassador Dmitry Polyansky, warned about this in an interview two days ago with Lt.Col. (ret.) Danny Davis. Poliansky said, “I would just advise everybody against testing the limits of our patience and the limits of our self-restraint. The fact that NATO is now directly involved in war against Russia by providing airspace to Ukrainian drones and by placing the production of drones and other warfare in their territory, I think, brings us very close to this conflict, which will have very devastating consequences for the European population….I think they have already crossed all the red lines, and it’s a matter of time if it continues like this. Then people will ask questions: what did we do? Why did Russia respond so harshly and so resolutely? It will be too late.”

Whether a new security and development architecture can be brought into being, as Schiller Institute founder Helga Zepp-LaRouche has proposed, or mankind annihilates itself in a nuclear war, a physical economic meltdown, or a combination of the two, depends very much on what happens inside the United States.

Last week, the Senate voted 49 to 50 on a War Powers resolution, which would curtail President Trump’s Iran War. The gap is closing, with two Republicans, Murkowski from Alaska and Collins from Maine, breaking from the Republican Party and voting for the resolution.

In Kentucky’s fourth congressional district, more money has been spent on the Republican primary than any primary in history thus far. A record $32 million has been spent by the AIPAC-funded, Trump-endorsed Ed Gallrein and incumbent congressman, anti-war advocate Thomas Massie. Gallrein has received $63,000 directly from AIPAC-related PACs, but nearly $12 million has been spent in “independent expenditures” in support of his candidacy by pro-Zionist PACs.

It appears we are very close to tipping the balance in the United States in favor of the long-term, durable survival of the human race, which Lyndon LaRouche advocated. Therefore, everyone should circulate the open letter from Helga Zepp-LaRouche, cited above, and redouble your efforts on the U.S. Congress. The U.S. Congress holds the power of the purse to end this war, and they can do so this week.
