Hegseth Should Resign, but Congress Could End the War Now, Diane Sare Tells RT

On April 29, the Russian news agency RT interviewed independent U.S. Presidential candidate Diane Sare in their live news broadcast, to get her comments on the ongoing hearings with Secretary of War [sic] Pete Hegseth. The host first played excerpts of an interchange from the hearings in which Congressman Adam Smith (D-WA) grilled Hegseth on the effectiveness of Operation Midnight Hammer, and then she turned to Sare for comments.

Sare began by saying “this kind of grilling has been long overdue.” Sare supported the targeting of Hegeseth, and his removal.

Asked why these hearings are happening now, Sare questions Congress members who are merely posturing with an eye towards midterm elections, when the Congress has the power to pull the funding and end the war immediately, as was ultimately how the Vietnam War was brought to an end.

Sare emphasized the long-term physical effects of this war. “I don’t think that anyone is taking up adequately the catastrophic consequences for the global economy and the U.S. economy as well.” Younger people in positions of power seem incapable of considering these effects.

Sare continued that Iran did not pose a threat to the U.S., that the U.S. and Israel had launched an unprovoked war of aggression. That the administration doesn’t feel the need to justify their actions. And that this war does not serve the interests of the United States or the American people.

RT posted a short excerpt of the interview on X, in which Sare discusses that barring a “desperate action,” a U.S. victory is not feasible because “Iran actually has the upper hand.” But, “I would prefer to see an entirely different dynamic among nation-states, where we stop talking about ‘who has the upper hand,’ and what can we accomplish together for mankind.…” This clip had 9,000-plus views in just 6 hours.
