Deputy U.S. Representative to the UN Tammy Bruce, at the UN Security Council session yesterday on Ukraine, joined in the hypocrisy of many European states by calling Russia’s attack on Kiev over the night of May 23-24, an “inexplicable, dangerous, and barbaric escalation. We caution Russia not to mount so-called systematic strikes....” The Russian action was a pre-announced response to the Ukraine May 22 attack on the youth dormitory in Starobelsk, which killed 21 young people and injured many more.
Meantime, certain reports have begun to come forward from news and other agencies invited to go to Starobelsk to see firsthand, that Kiev is lying when it says there were military forces billeted at the dormitory.
Yesterday’s UN Security Council hearing came about after Ukraine requested it on May 24, which request was backed by France, the U.K., Denmark, Greece and Latvia. Ukraine and backers, proceeding under its recurring pretense that everything Moscow does is “unprovoked,” charged that Russian’s attack on Kiev May 23-24 was so.
To recap: Moscow had clearly announced that they were now fed up with the duplicity, and that Kiev’s deliberate targeting of the student dormitory in Starobelsk sent a clear message from Ukraine regarding its intent to commit war crimes, and that Russia would now target decision-making centers in and around Kiev. Russia underlined their point by deploying an Oreshnik missile against the Bila Tserkva air force base, south of Kiev.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres briefly addressed the 15-member Council yesterday on the recent sharp escalation, stating that the “death spiral must stop.” According to the UN release, “the war’s trajectory must change, as the present escalation only intensifies the risks of miscalculation and unintended consequences. Urgent de-escalation, a full and unconditional ceasefire and renewed diplomacy are needed.” He expressed concern over Moscow’s announcement that they would conduct “consistent and systemic strikes against Ukrainian defense enterprises in Kiev, as well as against decision-making centers and command posts”—even though Guterres said he recognized that it was “in response” to the drone attack on Starobelsk.
The EU sponsors of their proxy Ukraine have pretended that the only issue is that Russia’s advance warning that foreign embassies in Kiev were endangered was actually a terroristic threat, and they had mobilized around a petition to that effect, one that Washington declined to sign.
