Cuba's Active Diplomacy at the Eurasian Economic Union Summit in Astana

Throughout this difficult period of U.S. vicious coercion and threats of military invasion, Cuba has maintained an active diplomatic schedule, strengthening bilateral relations with allies, and discussing bilateral agreements, especially related to its economic development. Today, as Granma reports Vice President Salvador Valdés Mesa attended the Fifth Economic Forum of the five-member Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), as well as the broader Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, of which it is an observer nation, in Astana, Kazakhstan. He told his hosts that one of Cuba’s major priorities as a participant in the regional organization is to encourage the participation of Eurasian investors and financial institutions in Cuba’s economic and social development.

In remarks to the meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, Vice President Valdés pointed out that as an observer state, Cuba hopes to reap benefits from the Joint Action Plan for 2026-2030 signed on May 28 with the EAEU, which would allow Cuba greater insertion into this very important market and move forward with projects such as the Mariel Special Development Zone, which in his view, once completed, could open the door to trade with Latin America and the Caribbean for EAEU nations. He also outlined other areas of common interest such as renewable energy, agriculture, health, biotechnology and artificial intelligence.
