On August 17, Associate Circuit Judge Karma Johnson briefly issued an arrest warrant for 2024 Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein when she failed to appear in court on charges from an anti-genocide protest on the campus of Washington University in St. Louis on April 27, 2024. However, the warrant was immediately withdrawn when Stein’s attorney appeared before the court.
At the 2024 peaceful protest, more than 100 were arrested, including Stein, several local elected officials, students, and activists. Among those arrested at the protest was Megan Green, the local St Louis President of the Board of Aldermen, who described the protest as “jovial” and “loving” before the police arrived. Stein and Green attempted to negotiate with the police and university officials to prevent any confrontation. Police from four local jurisdictions, in addition to the campus police, rejected any negotiations and began to make arrests.
