The Chinese daily Global Times published an article on the upcoming Xi-Trump summit to be held on Sept. 24. The article pointed first to the agreements reached between Trump and Xi in their meeting in May in Beijing, where they “agreed on a new vision of building a constructive China-US relationship of strategic stability over the next three years and beyond.” The article then quotes the veteran U.S. ambassador Chas Freeman from an interview with Global Times: “The US, like China, needs a peaceful international environment in which to deal with many domestic problems. So, the two countries can indeed coexist and cooperate.” It adds that “he emphasized that China and the US have different ideologies and different socioeconomic systems, yet they can cooperate to mutual advantage.”
